Have you noticed that this profession is ripe with the potential for comparison and envy?
ROOT CANAL ENVY - is THAT A THING?
I don't know if dentists envy or compare themselves to other dentists. Maybe they compare their incomes.
I just don't know if dentists make Facebook posts about the root canals they are doing, showing selfies of themselves with their latest root canal ...
(let's be clear - the possibility for envy and comparison is everywhere, in every profession - it's not profession specific. I just think it's funny to think of dentists posting selfies of root canals).
ANYTHING YOU CAN DO I CAN MAKE MYSELF FEEL WORSE
So many coaches. So many Facebook posts. So many different coaches doing amazing things ... and here I sit, in my house, with no great pictures.
I am as prone as anyone (when low and I have forgotten who I am) to comparison and envy.
Michelle Abend Bauman and I used to (eventually) laugh when one of us got into this state. When Michelle was in this place she'd start to say things to me like:
- We need to do a blog.
- We need a plan (we didn't have much of one sometimes).
- We need a better website (we didn't have one).
When I was in this place, I was not as evolved - meaning, I didn't think about what WE should do. I generally devolved into commenting about what OTHERS were doing, and making it less than - as a way to make myself feel better.
This was a temporary "fix" - until I felt the "yuck" of my own judgement.
CONSIDER THAT COMPARISON IS THE "EASY" WAY OUT
Comparison keeps us out of the courageous, diligent, conscious work of growth.
It keeps us out of our own lane, out of our own game, and out of our own generative abilities.
WHO'S SUCCESS CAN WE USE TO TRANSFORM OURSELVES AND OUR WORK?
When Michelle and I were in a small coaches group run by Steve Chandler there was a coach in the group who was in the big leagues already, in so far as earnings. She was already at 200k+ a year, and was in Steve's group go take it further.
We knew this because in this small group of 9 coaches, we shared our billings weekly in a report we sent to Steve - and this report was shared with the whole group weekly, when Steve sent back his coaching to each of us.
Seeing each other's reports, as well as Steve's coaching was one of the most transformative times in my early career.
Michelle and I decided if she could do it, so could we. We "chased" her, as a game. We watched everything she did. We listened closely to the coaching she received from Steve. We saw her as someone who created possibility for US.
MAKE IT A GAME - HERE'S THE CHALLENGE
Is there someone you can "chase" and make it a game?
- What is it about this person that you admire?
- What does it tell you that you’d like to cultivate more of Courage, boldness, compassion, or?
- Is there an expertise that’s being demonstrated that you’d like to develop mastery in?
What action would be required to bring forward your own authentic expression of what you admire?
LET THE REPORTING BEGIN!
At the CFJ Coaching Success School every coach will be turning in a monthly report sharing their billings, their # of conversations, connections, and invitations.
EVERY MONTH YOU'LL GET COACHING ON YOUR REPORT
AND - the entire class will be tracking the billings as a group.
HOW MUCH CAN WE MAKE?
